It's been a long while since I've made one of these. So here's what influences me, and why...
1. Cartoon Network: Essentially, this was my childhood. The countless Cartoon Cartoon shows were what I grew up watching as a little kid, and in my youth, I would often imitate what I saw on screen and try to put it on paper. If it were not for this habit, I may not have become the budding artist I am today.
2: Jet Set Radio Future: One of the most visually and musically appealing games of all time. With a fantastic soundtrack, stellar character design, a wicked art style, and addicting gameplay, JSRF stands to me as the prime, number one inspiration for my original "Music Masters" project.
3: Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem: Though I am not much of an anime person, this particular Leiji Matsumoto classic is a perfect example of a beautiful fusion between music and art. Set to one of the greatest albums of all time, Daft Punk's Discovery, this tale of an alien band being kidnapped and brain-washed to play on Earth is not only beautifully drawn and animated, but wonderfully told.
4. Avatar: The Last Airbender: One of the most powerful and original series I've ever seen. The themes, art style, and character development present in this series puts it high on the list of things that inspire me. It's not anime. It's Western animation, and it rocks.
5: Scott Pilgrim: How can I go on without mentioning Brian Lee O'Mailey? Scott Pilgrim has a cool style, a great music/video game theme to it, and is just a fun concept in general. Another big inspiration for sure.
6. Sonic Adventure: I still stand by the opinion that this was the best Sonic game ever made. What hits me the most is the soundtrack, which I feel destroys anything that came after it. Also, it is the first game to establish the Sonic Adventure art "style", which, I must admit it, I am somewhat influenced by.
7: Jamiroquai: My favorite band of all time. The band my own bass-playing uncle (whom the character Rob Prototype is indeed based on) showed me when I was just six years old. Jamiroquai's album covers, music videos, and stellar, funky sounds continue to capture my imagination to this day, and I doubt that'll ever change.
8: illeity: His comics and his style are pretty fantastic, and the way he tells stories and uses classic quotes is pretty mind-boggling. One of the best new artists on this here site, a force to be reckoned with, and a huge inspiration to me.
Please, go check him out.
So yeah. Those are the things that inspire me. Check some of them out, if you're not familiar with them.
Now, back to art!
